Your team and your responsibilities

Team/division description

Toyota Motor Europe R&D Centre is responsible for:
• Developing vehicles and making concept proposals for European core models.
• Reflecting EU technologies to Toyota vehicles timely by utilizing strong network with European partners.

The Material Engineering division (MED) is part of the R&D group at Toyota Motor Europe Technical Center in Zaventem, Belgium. By utilization of wide and deep material knowledge as well as evaluation & analysis capability, its mission is to conduct research, to develop and to introduce attractive & environment-friendly materials.

The Material Engineering 2 department in MED is responsible for advanced material research for new clean mobility, hydrogen economy, quantum sensors and materials, and carbon neutrality.

Your project

We are looking for an intern to support a research project aimed at improving the accuracy of predicting key transport properties of liquid battery electrolytes. The project integrates open quantum-chemical datasets, machine-learning force-field refinement, and molecular dynamic simulations. You will be responsible for:

• Integrating and analysing open DFT datasets relevant to organic electrolytes and Li-ion chemistry to enrich the ML force-field training process
• Retraining and fine-tuning the ML force-field to reduce prediction errors
• Running molecular dynamics simulations with updated ML force field and evaluating transport properties under protocols
• Comparing simulation output with baseline results to identify gaps, and guide for further dataset selection

Your profile

• You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
• You have a background computational chemistry, material informatics, data science, or equivalent specialization
• You have good knowledge/experience with molecular dynamics simulations
• You have good knowledge/experience machine learning
• You have good Python skills
• Open personality and flexible team player, hands-on mentality

Starting date: Between April to June 2026

Duration: 12 weeks

It is mandatory that applicants are students for the entire period of the internship.
