Your team and your responsibilities

Team/division description

The Materials Engineering division in Toyota Motor Europe is responsible for the research and development of new materials and analytical techniques for emerging technologies. Particularly we examine topics which work towards reducing the environmental impact of our vehicles. One of our key topics is the development of sustainable fuels, such as green hydrogen or carbon neutral hydrocarbons from the conversion of carbon dioxide.

Our team aims at searching for and integrating European unique and advanced technology into final products to strengthen Toyota’s future products.

Your project

One major bottleneck in precious metal-free catalysts for oxygen evolution is their high resistance. We are now offering a position to develop catalysts with improved conductivity for water electrolysis and set up a new protocol to determine their through-plane resistance.

The Activity will Include:

• Catalyst synthesis via solution based methods based on an existing protocol
• Exploring measures to improve catalyst conductivity through compositional changes
• Preparation of a protocol and measurement of catalyst through-plane resistance
• Additional characterisation of synthesised catalysts e.g. electrochemical testing, in-plane resistance, x-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy

Your profile

• You are fluent in English (TME’s business language)
• Bachelor/Master student (preferably: Chemical Engineering)
• Previous experience of electrochemistry is a plus
• Interest in sustainable technology

Starting date: 15th June

Duration: 12 weeks
